>> >>Malayalam director IV Sasi passes away
Renowned Malayalam filmmaker I.V. Sasi passed away in Chennai. He was 69 years old.
He had been ill for a while. He has directed a few Hindi films as well. The veteran director won the Nargis Dutt Award for Best Feature Film on National Integration in the year 1982 for his movie ‘Aaroodam’.
With over 150 films to his credit, Sasi was known for his work in between 1970-2000. He has also received multiple state awards for his work. He was also the recipient of the JC Daniel Award in 2015.

Manav Thakkar became the first Indian to occupy the top spot (3,455 points) on the ITTF World Junior Circuit standings.
Thakkar was previously placed at No 5 position and the rise to the top spot must have given him the boost that he needed after finishing runner-up at the 2017 Serbian Junior and Cadet Open.
Thus, the boy from Surat ensured a place for himself in the ITTF World Junior Circuit Finals to be staged next February in Luxembourg.

Former India coach Scott Flemming has joined NBA India as head of basketball operations.
Flemming will oversee the league’s youth and elite basketball development initiatives in India, including the Reliance Foundation Jr. NBA program, The NBA Academy India and NBA Basketball School, and wil work with key stakeholders across the country.
Flemming also served as India head coach November 2012 to May 2015 after spending two years as an assistant coach for the Texas Legends of the NBA G League, the NBA’s official minor league.

Jitu Rai and Heena Sidhu combined to give India their first gold medal of the ISSF World Cup Finals, clinching the top honours in the 10m air pistol mixed team event on the opening day of competitions.
The duo shot 483.4 in the final to finish top of the podium at the Dr Karni Singh Shooting Ranges.
France’s Goberville and Fouquet bagged the silver medal with 481.1, while the Chinese pairing of Cai and Yang managed to claim the bronze with a score of 418.2.

The West Bengal government today appointed Kanwaljit Singh Cheema as the principal secretary of the nine-member board of administrators (BoA) in Darjeeling.
Cheema was the principal secretary of the Mass Education Extension and Library Service Department.
The West Bengal government on September 20 announced the formation of BoA in place of the Gorkhaland Territorial Administration for Darjeeling hills.

India’s Divij Sharan and America’s Scott Lipsky won the European Open trophy in Antwerp, Belgium.
Divij Sharan and Scott Lipsky defeated Santiago Gonzalez and Julio Peralta by 6-4, 2-6, 10-5 in the finals.
They won the 2017 European Open title. Divij Sharan has won his first title of the 2017 season on the ATP World Tour, and third overall, by winning the European Open trophy.

NS Venkatesh has been appointed as chief executive of the Association of Mutual Funds in India (AMFI).
Before that, Venkatesh served in Industrial Development Bank of India (IDBI) for over 19 years, where he held several senior positions, including that of chief financial officer and executive director.
He was the executive director at Lakshmi Vilas Bank.

The unique ‘Direct Debit Feature’ will allow IndusInd Bank account holders to link their accounts just once and pay using the Cobrand App as and when required.

The Meghalaya Election Department has entered Limca Book of Records for the formation of the biggest human logo comprising young voters in the state.
The logo formation was part of Mission Unite (U and I towards Enrolment) as part of the Special drive to enroll young and left out voters.
A total of 2,870 students, 113 schools, three colleges, and logo size – 120ft x 75ft in the age group of 18 and 19 enrolled as new voters and formed a 75 feet x 120 feet size human logo.

Indian Navy Ship Sukanya under the command of Commander SA Deodhar has arrived at Belawan Indonesia to participate in the 30th edition of CORPAT (Coordinated Patrol) and 3rd Bilateral exercise between the Indian Navy and the Indonesian Navy.
The exercise is aimed to foster closer maritime ties with countries located on the rim of the Indian Ocean. The two navies have been carrying out CORPAT on respective sides of the International Maritime Boundary Line (IMBL) twice a year since 2002.

As per a report by Coeus Age Consulting, Madhya Pradesh has emerged as the top state in terms of digital initiatives undertaken by State Government.
The assessment by the knowledge domain service provider was done using a scoring framework made up of two key constructs — Policy and Infrastructure Readiness (PIR) Score and Mission Mode Projects’ Performance (MMP) Score for each state
The assessment is based on 109 key performance indicators related to policy, infrastructure and mission mode projects.

State Bank of India (SBI) on Monday said it has signed an agreement with Escorts Limited to finance farmers for purchase of Escorts Tractors.
The aim of the tie-up with Escorts is to promote market and make accessible organized finance facility, with superior features and at competitive interest rates, to farmers across the country who wish purchase Powertrac and Farmtrac tractors manufactured by Escorts.
This will help a a large number of small and marginal farmers.

The Engineering Export Promotion Council (EEPC) of India has signed a memorandum of understanding with Punjab National Bank to provide easy access to finance for SMEs and merchant exporters of the council.
Punjab National Bank will provide finance with assurance that loans up to Rs. 10 crore would be provided within six to seven weeks at competitive rates.
PNB would also extend foreign currency loan facilities and provide advisory support to EEPC India members.

India has gifted memorabilia of the 1971 Liberation War to the Bangladesh government, which will be displayed in the Liberation War Museum.
During the war, about 10 million Bangladesh people took refuge in India and the two neighbours fought together to drive out the Pakistani occupation army.
The memorabilla includes military equipment utilised by the joint forces of India and Bangladesh as well as a large number of artefacts and documents etc.

The government has approved the biggest highway construction plan so far in the country, to develop approximately 83,677 km of roads at an investment of Rs 6.92 lakh crore by 2022.
The announcement will include the new 28,400 km Bharatmala highway programme connecting border areas, improving international, port and coastal connectivity
The highway construction programme is aimed at pushing economic activity and generating at least 14.2 crore man-days across the country over the next five years.

Union HRD Minister Prakash Javadekar mentioned that from the next academic session, ‘Paika Bidroha’ (Paika rebellion) of 1817 will find a place in the history books as ‘the First War of Independence’.
Paika Bidroha will find a place as the First War of Independence against the British Rule in the history books. The students should learn factual history of 1817.
Mr Javadekar had first made the announcement at a function, here, marking the bicentenary of Paika Rebellion, and added that the Centre has allocated Rs. 200 crore for commemorating it across the country.

Nicaragua has signed the Paris climate agreement, leaving the US and Syria as the only two countries out of the global pact.
It was the only nation to reject the agreement arguing that it did not do enough to tackle the problem of climate change.
The legally-binding pact aims to fight climate change by curbing global emissions of greenhouse gases.

The Reserve Bank Monday said it has set up a high-level task force on a Public Credit Registry for India with an aim to improve ease of doing business and control delinquencies.
It will suggest road map for developing a “transparent, comprehensive and near near real time PCR for India”.
The 10-member panel headed by Y M Deosthalee, former CMD of L&T Finance Holdings.

The Indian government approved a state bank recapitalization plan of Rs 2.11 lakh crore over the next two years, in a bid to clean banks’ books and revive investment in a slowing economy.
Of the planned sum, recapitalization bonds will account for Rs 1.35 lakh crore, while Rs 76,000 crore will come from budgetary support and equity issuance.
Finance Minister Arun Jaitley said the recapitalization of state banks would be followed by a series of reforms. He did not give details.
